Comments: A number of people have forwarded this image to me for debunking, though I'm not sure why. On close examination it is clearly a painting -- an illustration or a work of art -- not a photograph. It's unlikely that the "awesome," "unbelievable" rock formation depicted in the artwork actually exists. If it does, its anthropomorphic features were imaginatively enhanced by the artist.

In addition to circulating via email, the image has been posted numerous times on Internet message boards without attribution. Several readers have written to suggest that the painting may be the work of artist Bev Doolittle, though this remains unconfirmed.

Update: The Website Hoax-Slayer.com has determined that the image is from a children's book illustrated by Korean artist Kim Jae-hong.
